Normalax is a laxative medicine indicated for the treatment of constipation.
It can also be used for preparation of diagnostic tests, pre and post-operative treatment and whenever it requires a facilitated evacuation.
Bisacodyl, the active ingredient of Normalax, is a contact laxative of the diphenylmethane group that, after metabolism by hydrolysis, stimulates the mucosa of the large intestine causing peristalsis in the colon. This results in the stimulation of defecation, reduced transit time and stool softening.
If the product is used during the day, the effect is obtained in about 6 hours, while if administration is before bedtime the effect is obtained between 8 and 12 hours.

Should be taken at night to produce effect the next morning. Do not take Normalax if you are allergic to bisacodyl or any other component of this medicine. Contraindicated in: patients with ileus, intestinal obstruction, severe abdominal surgery, such as appendicitis, severe inflammation in the intestines, severe abdominal pain associated with nausea and vomiting, severe dehydration or incompatible hereditary disease with some ingredients. Prolonged and excessive taking may cause electrolyte imbalance and hypokalaemia. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should only be done under medical supervision. Do not use in children without first consulting the doctor. Concomitant use with baking soda, alkaline mineral water or milk is not recommended.
