Bronxol is an adjuvant mucolytic for the antibacterial treatment of respiratory infections with bronchial hypersecretion. The active ingredient of Bronxol is Ambroxol.
Ambroxol stimulates the mucociliary activity of respiratory mucosa through the mucus transport and stimulation of the surfactant system of the lung.
Ambroxol acts breaking the sulfur bonds of mucoproteins without increasing the volume of secretions. Ambroxol inhibits the cough reflex in a dose-dependent manner, being this effect slightly inferior than codeine phosphate. However, ambroxol has the advantages of having no depressant effect on respiration, no analgesic and narcotic effect and no inhibitory effect in the intestinal motility.
Bronxol is sugar free, so it can be taken by diabetics.
It has a pleasant peach flavor, and can be taken by adults and children (from 12 months).
Bronxol 6 mg/ml is a non prescription medicine that contains ambroxol as active ingredient. Please read the information on the label and the package leaflet. In case of doubt or when symptoms persist, consult your doctor or pharmacist. It is indicated as adjunctive mucolytic antibacterial treatment of respiratory infections in the presence of bronchial hypersecretion. It is indicated for children from 1 year of age, and adults too, in the elderly. Precautions: It is recommended careful management for asthma patients; contraindicated in individuals with hypersensitivity to active substance or any of the excipients, patients with gastroduodenal ulcer. This medicinal product contains sorbitol (E420). Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance should not take this medicine. The administration of ambroxol to patients unable to have an effective sputum may lead to accumulation of bronchial secretions. Ambroxol should not be used over an extended period without the patient consult your doctor. Concomitant administration of ambroxol with antibiotics leads to a higher concentration of antibiotic in the lung tissue. Simultaneous administration of Bronxol with cough can cause dangerous congestion of secretions due to the cough reflex changes. Do not use the syrup if it becomes cloudy. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Close pouch tightly after each use. The product should not be used after the expiration date has passed. Do not store above 30°C.
